8oct18 78.59 Average mpg $2.17/mile
I made an error in my spreadsheets that I just discovered, that's why the dollars per mile dropped significantly this week. While doing that I also broke out some other figures: Without the initial cost of the bike I am getting about 22 cents per mile, just gas and insurance is around 7 cents per mile, and just gas is 4 cents per mile.
I was not able to ride last Tuesday due to the tail end of hurricane Rosa hitting Phoenix but I rode the other 4 days to work and rode to Casa Grande to go to the movies with my Mother. On that ride I hit the interstate outside of town where the speed limit is 75 for the first time. Getting on the freeway I opened it up to wide open throttle for the first time and hit a top speed of 85. There is a bit of buffeting, especially when around other vehicles but otherwise the bike is pretty stable. It did appear to negatively affect my mileage as I showed just under 75 mpg on the last tank, but as we know, putting just two and a half gallons in a tank and looking at more than 75 mpg can show a large variation. I haven't done the math on the margin of error that is possible as I would need to accurately figure the difference in volume from one fill up to the next but I am guessing that we are looking at plus or minus 5 percent, possibly more. I was able to download an app that accurately measures speed, checked it against my pickup and car (That I have measured with a stopwatch) and the speedo is fairly accurate.

I also pulled my leather jacket out of the closet for the first time this year, it felt good to ride with it on again. I haven't pulled out my winter gloves yet but on the ride over I did wish that I had. The summer gloves are way to thin for protection from the cold. We usually see summer last until the second week of November here in Phoenix but maybe we got lucky this year.
